Create a blog with purpose?  What does that even mean?

So many people start what they refer to as a lifestyle blog, but did you know that if you are doing anything besides putting an online journal out there, that you should blog with a purpose?  And blogging with a purpose ultimately means choosing a theme for your content.   Check out how to start a blog on purpose and why you need a theme below and of course, if you have any other questions, you can comment after this post.

What is your end goal?

So you are writing what you are lovingly referring to as a lifestyle blog.  In other words, you’re probably writing whatever you want to write when you feel like writing it.  And that’s fine.  I have a personal blog that I write for no other reason than to get the words and thoughts out of my head.

I also have no plans to monetize it or actively promote it.

I’m honestly shocked when I look at my analytics and see that people I don’t know actually read it.

But, if you are creating a blog to make money, build a business, or even just to build a following, you need to narrow down your content.

How to Create a Blog with Purpose

You’ve probably heard something about a niche (and I can honestly say, I’m a little tired of this word).

So, let’s put it differently.

You need to have a theme.

It can be about health and fitness, it can be about travel, it can be about food, it can be about DIY projects, it can be about motorcycles, or horses, or cars, or making money online… it can be about any thing (operative word there: thing), but it can’t be about getting a six pack, knitting the perfect baby blanket, and how to create a side income in your spare time.

Sure, there are some themes that can be intertwined.  Health and fitness can easily include workouts, supplements, and healthy recipes.

But, you really need to choose a theme and then brainstorm around that theme in order to figure out all of your different content opportunities.

That’s how you can build a following, build a business, and let your blog evolve in order to monetize it.

When it comes to figuring out and constructing a theme, you need to focus on something you are passionate about, knowledgeable about, and that you enjoy.

You’re going to be spending a lot of one-on-one time with your theme.  You may as well enjoy it!

So, first thing’s first, what’s your theme going to be?  Comment below and let us know.
